Dermal Fillers

Most of the leading filler brands contain local anaesthetic, and in addition, your dentist will apply topical anaesthetic cream to the area prior to commencing treatment in order to achieve minimal discomfort.

Most patients experience minimal side effects and return to normal activities immediately after treatment. Possible side effects include trauma during the procedure caused by needles and cannulas, bleeding, stinging, bruising, and swelling- particularly in the lips.

Most swelling or bruising may become more apparent over the next 24 hours but then usually settles within a few days. We recommend paracetamol, cold packs, antihistamines and arnica cream to help reduce symptoms. Most traumatic injuries heal completely on their own.

Dermal fillers will degrade over time, and the longevity does vary between products and individuals. Most will last between 6-18 months. You can then maintain the results with follow-up treatments. You can see improvement immediately after the procedure, but you should allow 2 weeks to assess the final result.

Dermal fillers are used to correct or enhance facial contours such as the cheeks, jawline, nose, chin and temples. They can also define and volumise lips and soften and correct facial wrinkles or folds. They can also be used to improve the tone, texture, and hydration of the skin.

• Nose-to-mouth lines (Nasolabial folds or ‘smile lines’).
• Mouth-to-chin lines (Marionette lines).
• Lip fillers.
