Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

Botulinum Toxin, a neurotoxin, is injected into the desired areas and this causes muscle relaxation (weakness or paralysis of the muscle) and supresses sweating by temporarily disrupting the nerve activity to muscles and sweat glands.

The treatment can cause your facial expression lines or wrinkles to be less noticeable or disappear resulting in a smoother more youthful appearance.

The product is injected into the muscles with a very thin needle. It is almost painless, but patients may feel a slight burning sensation while the solution is being injected. There is no downtime required and patients can return to work immediately.

The results begin to become apparent after 2-3 days with peak effect being reached at 10-14 days. Results usually last up to 3-6 months (this varies widely between individuals). The procedure can be repeated after 3 months.

Once the treatment is complete your dentist will go through the aftercare instructions such as avoiding extreme facial expressions, alcohol and make up for 12 hours.

Also avoid extreme sun exposure, UV light, freezing temperatures and saunas for 2 weeks. You will be invited back for a 2 week review appointment.

Anti-wrinkle treatments are relatively safe with minimal side effects, but before undergoing any treatment, it is important to understand the possible risks.

No invasive procedure is completely risk free. This includes possible swelling or bruising, transient headaches and redness, which all usually resolves within 7 days.

Enlarged jaw muscles may occur due to an overactive masseter muscle caused by excessive clenching or grinding. Administering muscle relaxing toxin to these targeted areas will weaken these muscles, reducing bruxism, resulting in a slimmer jaw and a more softened appearance.

There are noticeable improvements after one treatment, but results will improve further following repeated treatments.

Often people with hyperhidrosis sweat excessively from their palms, feet, underarms or head. If you are unable to manage your sweating with antiperspirants, then muscle relaxing treatments may be a good option for you.

Using a fine needle muscle relaxing toxin is injected to the area. This blocks the nerves responsible for activating your sweat glands and therefore reduces sweating.

Topical anaesthetic can be used to reduce discomfort for the treatment.

A gummy smile is when 3-4mm of gum tissue becomes visible when you smile or laugh.

This may occur due to:

• An overactive upper lip muscle
• The shape and size of your lips
• The shape and size of your teeth
• An enlarged upper jaw

A small amount of Botulinum toxin is administered between the nose and mouth fold relaxing the muscle responsible for elevating the upper lip.

This results in more gum tissue being covered when you smile.
