What different types of Dental Bridges are there?

Generally, there are three types of bridges that can be used, and your dentist will make an informed decision about which one would be the best for you:

Traditional Bridges
These will require you to have a crown placed on one or both adjacent teeth, either side of the gap, to hold the false tooth in place.
Maryland Resin Bonded Bridges
The replacement tooth has a metal wing attached to it. This is strongly bonded onto the back of your adjacent supporting tooth. The wing is completely hidden restoring your natural smile.
Implant-retained Bridges
Implants are used as support instead of your natural teeth.

What does the procedure involve?

First, your Dentist will assess your teeth, ask questions, take x-rays as needed and confirm if a Dental Bridge is the ideal choice for you. From there the procedure is usually completed over two appointments.

At the first appointment, the teeth on either side of the bridge will be prepared to the correct shape, and then we will then take an impression or scan of the teeth so that the bridge can be made. You will be given a temporary bridge until your next appointment.

At your second appointment, the temporary bridge will be removed and replaced with the permanent bridge. Adjustments may be made to ensure good fit and comfort.

How do I take care of my bridge?

The better you take care of your crowns and bridges, the longer they will last in your mouth. You should brush twice a day as well as interproximal cleaning and regular hygienist visits and dental check-ups. This will help to avoid any kind of infection that could lead to tooth loss in the future.

You should find that your bridge allows you to eat and speak more comfortably, therefore having a positive impact on your overall quality of life.

My dentist himself is a very good man and a great job however the two hygienist that I have been dealing with have been absolutely excellent and have changed my mouth forever! I was referred to a gum specialist who was amazing and found issues with my gums and even the dentist had not seen. I had to have a crown fitted with a filling being replaced. This was the first major dental procedure for me, and I was scared! Dr Rudy Audit and his dental nurse (apologies I don't know her name) could see how nervous I was and they were so reassuring and professional. They put me at ease and constantly reassured me. As a Specialist Oral surgeon I’m lucky that I’ve not needed much Dentistry. I think we surgeons make the worst patients. I recently cracked a virgin tooth, the crack had propagated into the nerve. I’ve never know pain like it. Kreena has been a colleague that I have admired from afar and consulted a few times. For me there was only one choice. 7 hour round trip from Leicester to Brigstock to see this amazingly talented young lady. She is a consummate professional and excellent at her job. Saw Mr Hussain, the new dentist. I started off by explaining that I have a real fear of dentists, he was absolutely fantastic, explained what he was doing and then discussed what we could do with a particular tooth. Couldn’t be more impressed with this dentist surgery. First visit was for wisdom tooth extraction.
